How do you keep in touch with your family, close friends, and your children’s teachers during the quarantine? I have seen people devising some fun ways to celebrate each other while social distancing, and thought it would be fun to share. Earlier this week, someone in our neighborhood had their 70th birthday. They placed a balloon covered table at the end of the driveway with a sign encouraging those passing by to wave. Family members formed a small line of cars along the side of the road, where they could safely offer their birthday wishes, all while the birthday girl sat on a shaded porch waiving and eating cake!
Our regional schools closed early for the year, so my daughter’s teacher makes videos of her assignments that include visual examples, information regarding the subject, and directions. She holds video conferences for the entire class and gives short lessons, hold activities like letting students share their pets, and homework projects. My daughter misses her classmates, so she loves it. She also gets occasional one-on-one time with her teacher.
School administrators recently assigned blocks of time for students from each grade to drive by and safely retrieve the items they left in their classroom cubbies. Students were able to greet their teachers from the safety of their cars.
What are some of the ways you and your community are navigating the social distancing guidelines, and keeping some level functionality? We’ll keep the comments open for a while so you can share!
Please, stay safe and healthy.
